Level 1 courses are for students who have achieved few or no examination passes but have basic literacy and numeracy skills. Successful completion of these courses will provide you with the qualifications to progress to level 2, training or employment.
Level 2 courses are are designed to help students find out more about an area of work and begin to develop the skills needed for a job in that field. They generally last one year. Entry requirements vary but you usually need some GCSEs to start on one of these courses. After completing a level 2 course, you can move on to a course at a higher level or perhaps start work or training.
Level 3 qualifications focus on traditional study skills. They normally take two years to complete. Many people use AS and A levels to go on to higher education, but they're also useful if you want to go straight into a job.
Oracle (a global enterprise software company) and City and Guilds (a learning provider of vocational qualifications), have worked together to produce this course. The course is a level 3 qualification and the full award is equivalent to 2 A Levels. The course is designed to provide an alternative progression route directly into the IT industry. The qualification is known as OCA. (Oracle Certified Associate).
